The Lowenstein Center for the Public Interest is pleased to announce that, as part of the expansion of its partnership with Lawyers Alliance for New York, Sara Uz and Ike Omoruna have been selected by firm leadership to participate in Lawyers Alliance’s longstanding externship program.

Lawyers Alliance is the leading provider of business and transactional legal services for nonprofit organizations and social enterprises that are improving the quality of life in New York City neighborhoods. As Lawyers Alliance externs, Uz and Omoruna will gain specialized knowledge in New York nonprofit law and apply that knowledge to support public charities and private foundations that sustain New Yorkers in need.

The externship program provides associates with corporate, real estate, tax, and other transactional and business law experience by giving them the opportunity to work full time at Lawyers Alliance for four to six months. Participating firms select attorneys to serve as externs on a rotating basis, allowing them concentrated exposure to transactional public interest work.

Uz is an associate in the firm’s Tech Group. She focuses her practice on the representation of startups, emerging growth companies, and the venture funds and other entities that invest in them. In addition to counseling clients on venture financings, she provides strategic guidance through all stages of her startup clients’ life cycles, from formation to exit. A former judicial extern for the Honorable Justice Mariano-Florentino Cuéllar of the California Supreme Court, Uz holds a J.D from the University of California, Davis School of Law and a B.A. from the University of Oklahoma.

Also a member of Lowenstein’s Tech Group, Omoruna represents emerging companies in tech, and venture and growth fund investors. His practice includes venture, M&A, and private equity transactions, as well as general corporate matters and work involving fintech and blockchain. Before moving to the United States, Omoruna practiced law at a leading commercial boutique firm in Toronto, Canada. While pursuing his J.D. from Osgoode Hall Law School, in Ontario, Omoruna worked at Fair Change Community Services, where he advocated for people experiencing homelessness. He has also worked for Legal Aid Cambodia, an NGO located in Phnom Penh. In addition to his law degree, Omoruna holds a certificate in Fintech (with an emphasis on blockchain) from Oxford University and a B.A. from York University.

As externs, Uz and Omoruna will serve as members of Lawyers Alliance’s legal team. Externs gain training and hands-on experience, while bringing important skills and resources to Lawyers Alliance's clients.
