Lowenstein Sandler and two of its intellectual property lawyers, partner Vanessa A. Ignacio and counsel Matthew P. Hintz, have been included in the 2020 edition of World Trademark Review 1000 – The World’s Leading Trademark Professionals (WTR 1000). This is the ninth consecutive year that Lowenstein and Ignacio have been listed in the WTR 1000, and it is Hintz’s second appearance in this prestigious publication.
In Lowenstein’s listing in the WTR 1000, the publication notes that “when in-house counsel and marketing teams are dealing with trademark and brand issues with high visibility at senior management level, they call in Lowenstein Sandler; whether it be updating iconic logos with a rich history, auditing large portfolios or negotiating IP-rich transactions, this dynamic firm has the right tools and knows how to use them.”
It further praises “international strategist Vanessa Ignacio, [who] impressively takes charge of the trademarks, copyright and trade secrets practice. Though active across many industry sectors, she has a particularly in-depth knowledge of pharmaceutical trademarks and serves as exclusive trademark counsel to several life sciences industry leaders.”
WTR 1000 also calls Matthew Hintz, a “clear and succinct communicator” who “gives you the best possible protection cost-effectively and within budget.”
According to its website, the WTR 1000 remains the only standalone publication to recommend individual practitioners and their firms exclusively in the trademark field and to identify the leading players in over 80 key jurisdictions globally. The organization conducts face-to-face and telephone interviews and exchanges correspondence over a four-month period with hundreds of lawyers, attorneys, and their clients involved with trademarks. Individuals qualify for inclusion in the WTR 1000 upon receiving sufficient positive feedback from market sources with knowledge of their practice and the market in which they operate. Firms qualify for a listing on the basis of their depth of expertise, market presence, and level of work.
Ignacio and Hintz are members of Lowenstein’s Trademarks, Copyrights & Trade Secrets and Technology & Media Transactions practices as well as the firm’s Tech Group. Ignacio is also Chair of the Trademarks, Copyrights & Trade Secrets practice. Her robust practice focuses on the prosecution and enforcement of trademarks for a diverse group of clients. Ignacio’s advice to companies on the clearance, development, maintenance, and enforcement of trademarks is strategic and precise. She has consistently proven herself an effective and artful negotiator with trademark examiners. Highly experienced in all aspects of enforcing brands online, she has an impeccable record of success in fighting off cybersquatters. Ignacio is also an aggressive advocate for her clients, handling opposition and cancellation proceedings before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and managing contested proceedings in jurisdictions around the world.
Hintz’s practice focuses on intellectual property law with a concentration in trademark and copyright counseling. Clients benefit from his experience with both startups and multinational brands for clearance of proposed marks, obtaining approvals for applications to register marks and issued registrations with the USPTO, as well as brand protection and enforcement before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) and in foreign opposition proceedings.
