By combining expertise in securities, payments, and lending regulation with deep experience in state-level financial licensing, Lowenstein’s Multi-State Securities, Money Transmitter Licensing & Lending Regulatory Group provides clients with a holistic, forward-looking strategy for managing regulatory risk. Whether navigating multi-state enforcement actions, securing non-bank financial services licenses, or advising on emerging fintech and crypto business models, the Group delivers the insight and strategic guidance clients need to operate and grow in a landscape defined by overlapping—and often conflicting—state and federal requirements.
State Securities Practice
As the boundaries between federal and state oversight continue to blur—especially in emerging sectors such as fintech, crypto, and digital assets—the Multi-State Securities, Money Transmitter Licensing & Lending Regulatory Group gives clients a strategic advantage in managing multi-jurisdictional regulatory challenges. The team defends and advises crypto firms, broker-dealers, private funds, investment advisers, and issuers facing simultaneous investigations, enforcement actions, and registration matters brought by multiple state regulators. This includes navigating the registration of securities, entities, and individuals, and resolving complex state-by-state compliance issues that arise as businesses scale nationally.
Led by a Former NASAA President
The Group is led by Christopher Gerold, former Chief of the New Jersey Bureau of Securities (BOS), former President of the North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA), and two-time Chair of NASAA’s Enforcement Committee. In these national leadership roles, Gerold directed and coordinated multi-state investigations, enforcement actions, and policy initiatives that continue to shape securities regulation across the country.
Lowenstein leverages Gerold’s unmatched insight into how state securities regulators collaborate, coordinate, and at times diverge from federal authorities. This perspective—built on long-standing relationships with regulators in nearly every jurisdiction—enables the firm to provide clients with informed, pragmatic, and strategic guidance when navigating complex, multi-state regulatory and enforcement challenges.
