  Law.com highlights Lowenstein Sandler’s innovative mental health initiative, in which members of the firm’s mental health and wellness (MHW) employee resource group (ERG) led the effort to custom design 21 rocking chairs that were then displayed throughout the firm’scommon areas. The initiative, which raised $10,000 on behalf of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), aimed to engage participants in several ways: first, groups assembled during lunch and on weekends to paint and decorate the chairs. Then, the chairs were placed throughout the firm’s common areas, serving as a reminder to all of the need to “take a break.”
  
  Donatella Verrico, Lowenstein’s Chief Human Resources Officer, says: “Lowenstein’s core values include innovation, collaboration, and service to others. This project perfectly exemplified those values by bringing together participants from different departments and practice areas to exercise their creativity for the benefit of a worthy cause, and highlighting the firm’s continued commitment to mental health and wellness.” Amy Komoroski Wiwi, partner in the firm’s Employment practice and Co-chair of the MHW group with Brittany Harlos, called the program a fun and informative way for Lowenstein lawyers, staff, and the wider community to learn more about the mental health and wellness issues that significantly impact individuals working in the legal industry: “Whether you painted a chair, shopped for a gently used chair, or simply took a minute to sit in a chair, we hope we gave everyone some insight and empathy into the challenges that we all face at one time or another, and that we offered them a brief respite from the stressors we all confront on a daily basis.”
  
  The mission of our group is really to provide a safe space for folks at the firm—not just lawyers, but everyone—to…normalize discussions about mental health, fight that stigma, and make sure that people are aware of the benefits they might not know about,” says Wiwi.

  Law360 describes Lowenstein’s expanded benefits package, which now extends coverage for fertility, adoption, and surrogacy services to a wider group of employees. "We'd like people to be able to access all of these benefits equally," says Donatella Verrico, Chief Human Resources Officer.
