Christopher Williams advises clients on managing regulatory compliance requirements and documentation, particularly with regard to anti-money laundering (AML), Know Your Customer (KYC), Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), Common Reporting Standard (CRS), and other regulatory regimes in connection with the onboarding of clients to financial institution banking platforms.

Working frequently with clients and financial institutions throughout North and Latin America, Asia, and Europe to mitigate risk and streamline the onboarding process, Chris provides legal counsel on the full range of challenges clients face under domestic and European regulatory regimes and helps them efficiently address financial institutions’ compliance requirements. He negotiates with counterparty banks creating and maintaining practical solutions and protocols for compliance with AML, KYC, and other compliance regulations to seamlessly integrate compliance into the onboarding process.

Chris helps private equity funds, venture capital funds, hedge funds, and portfolio companies streamline processes, develop comprehensive protocols, and standardize applications to make onboarding easier and more efficient, and thus facilitate the banking, derivative, and other transactions necessary to achieve his clients’ overall business objectives.

Prior to joining Lowenstein, Chris worked as in-house counsel with the New York City Police Department and the MTA New York City Transit Authority. As Deputy Managing Attorney of the NYPD Legal Bureau’s Subpoena Litigation Unit, he supervised uniformed and civilian staff during the intake, processing, and assignment of new cases; oversaw the drafting and filing of legal papers; and appeared in civil, criminal, and administrative courts on subpoena-related matters.
