Marina Portnova, Chair of Lowenstein’s Software and Electronics practice, has been recognized by the Silicon Valley Business Journal  as one of their Women of Influence 2022.

For over 20 years, Portnova has provided companies with a broad spectrum of patent-related services including the preparation and prosecution of patent applications (both U.S. and international), invention mining, patent validity and infringement analysis and opinions, freedom to operate analysis, IP due diligence work, IP licensing, and strategic IP counseling. Her practice focuses on intellectual property protection in such areas as computer architecture, machine learning and virtualization. Portnova has been consistently recognized as a preeminent patent prosecution practitioners by IAM Patent 1000.

In an interview with the California-based publication, Portnova notes that she is “dedicated to mentoring young attorneys to help them develop the skills necessary to grow into leadership positions, [making] a conscious effort to coach women on their communication skills and leadership development.” She adds that one of the accomplishments of which she is most proud is the team she has helped build at Lowenstein in the Patent Counseling & Prosecution and Tech Groups, saying: “Being successful is not possible without delegating important tasks to others…creating opportunities for them and promoting a team-oriented approach.”

Prior to becoming a lawyer, she worked as a software developer and a database administrator. She holds a J.D. from the Indiana School of Law; a degree in Russian Patent Law from the Central Institute of Patent Law; and an M.S. in Engineering and a B.S. in Computer Science from the Technical University in St. Petersburg, Russia.
