Lowenstein Sandler has announced that Michael P. Vito has rejoined the firm as partner in the Trusts & Estates group. He will be based in the firm’s Washington D.C. office.

A sophisticated planner to high net worth individuals, fiduciaries, family offices, and foundations, Vito has wide-ranging experience in tax law, high net worth estate planning, estate and trust administration, and philanthropy spanning more than two decades across multiple jurisdictions. He guides his clients through the administration and preservation of assets in ways that best protect their legacies through prudent business succession planning, multigenerational plans, and charitable giving.

With a keen focus on federal estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer taxes and fiduciary income tax planning, Vito counsels clients on the most effective techniques for the protection, management, and transfer of wealth, including through such vehicles as irrevocable life insurance trusts, grantor retained annuity trusts, and spousal lifetime access trusts.

For family offices, he develops custom family and philanthropic wealth transfer plans to effectuate clients’ wishes while optimizing transfer tax benefits. He designs and implements directed trustee structures and private trust companies to provide robust, multigenerational governance for families with growing trust networks. For philanthropically inclined clients, Vito provides advice on charitable gifts, private foundations, split-interest charitable trusts, excise taxes, grant-making procedures and agreements, and nonprofit governance.

Warren K. Racusin, Chair of the firm’s Trusts & Estates group, says: “We are thrilled to have Mike back with us. His sophisticated knowledge of estate planning, estate and trust administration, and tax issues makes him an invaluable resource for our clients.”

After working with Lowenstein for nearly 20 years, Vito moved to downtown Washington, D.C., to join Baker Hostetler LLP. He says, “I am glad to be coming ‘home’ to Lowenstein, where I began my career. I have always admired the firm’s approach to client service, which is personal, collaborative, and nimble.  I am also excited about expanding our T&E and family office work to the D.C.-area market.”

Vito earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from Tulane University School of Law and his B.A., cum laude, from Tulane University. He is admitted to practice in New York, New Jersey, Virginia, and the District of Columbia.

Zarema A. Jaramillo, Managing Partner of the firm’s D.C. office, says, “As our Washington-based team continues to grow, Mike will be integral to expanding the variety of services we can offer to clients across the capital region.”

Lowenstein’s Washington, D.C., office has tripled in size since its opening six years ago. Partners Jonathan L. Lewis and Mark E. Schamel and senior counsel Laura Fraedrich are other notable additions in the past six months to the respective practices of Antitrust/CompetitionWhite Collar Criminal Defense, and Global Trade & Policy.
