Lowenstein Sandler Selected as Counsel to the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors in the Chapter 11 Bankruptcy of the Roman Catholic Bishop of Oakland in California

Lowenstein Sandler has been selected to serve as counsel to the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors in the Chapter 11 bankruptcy case of the Roman Catholic Bishop of Oakland (California). The Committee is comprised of 9 survivors of sexual abuse. The Diocese, which serves Alameda and Contra Costa counties in the San Francisco Bay Area, filed for bankruptcy protection on May 8 in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of California.

Lowenstein also represents the Official Committee of Tort Claimant Creditors in the Chapter 11 bankruptcy case of the Diocese of Camden (New Jersey), where a settlement has been reached pursuant to which the Diocese will contribute $87.5 million plus rights against its insurance carriers to a trust to compensate more than 300 survivors of sexual abuse within the Diocese.
