Over the past 18 months, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives have started facing immense political and societal headwinds. These headwinds threaten to stem the momentum and potentially erase the consistent growth made by law firms, legal departments, and law schools over the past two decades.

Since 1999, when The Diversity Scorecard began its annual release, ALM periodically adjusts the methodology and data requested from firms to match the Scorecard to the evolving legal market. Last modified in 2022, the Diversity Scorecard emphasizes the retention and promotion of racially and ethnically diverse attorneys.

In 2023, DEI hit a crossroads, threatening the execution of diversity initiatives by law schools and firms and the enforcement of diversity requirements by legal departments. In this month’s Law.com Pro exclusive webcast, our journalists, analysts, and panelists will dive into various critical themes, including:

  • The American Lawyer’s soon-to-be-published Diversity Scorecard data and report
  • Where Big Law has made actual progress on DEI and where it falls short
  • The post—Students For Fair Admissions v. Harvard landscape
  • The rekindled debate over free expression in the profession
  • How DEI challenges are really professional development challenges
