Edmund Cohen has over 40 years of experience providing tax advice to multinational corporations, many of the largest investment funds, and numerous ultra-high net worth individuals.

He has provided tax advice in connection with in-bound and out-bound investment into and out of the United States including cross-border corporate acquisitions, dispositions and the operation and financing of international operations. In addition his cross-border experience also includes detailed advice with respect to PFICs, Subpart F issues, the application of the GILTI tax. Finally, Ed has worked on numerous derivative, and other financial product transactions, including life insurance related products such as private placement life insurance (PPLI), insurance dedicated funds (IDFs) and life settlement funds. Ed also has extensive experience in structuring foreign investment in U.S. real estate and tax planning for family offices and international families with U.S. family members.

Ed is consistently recognized by such rankings as Chambers USA, The Legal 500 U.S, Super Lawyers, and Best Lawyers in America. He has been named one of world’s leading tax attorneys in 50 separate independent surveys in such publications as International Financial Law Review and Euromoney magazine. 

A former senior tax partner of Winston & Strawn LLP for more than 15 years, Ed also served as Chair of Coudert Brothers LLP’s tax practice for nearly 20 years. He was an adjunct professor of law in the New York University School of Law’s Graduate Tax Program for more than 10 years.
