Lowenstein Sandler’s Rachel Maimin received the Attorney General’s Award for Exceptional Service from U.S. Attorney General William P. Barr at the 67th Annual Attorney General’s Awards Ceremony, held in Washington, D.C. The U.S. Department of Justice’s (DOJ) second-highest award for employee performance is bestowed in recognition of the accomplishment of assigned duties in a noteworthy manner and/or distinguished conduct in the performance of duties over a period of years. Maimin is also the recipient of the Attorney General’s 2017 David Margolis Award for Exceptional Service (the DOJ’s highest honor).
Maimin was honored for her distinguished work as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York’s Violent and Organized Crime and Public Corruption Unit. Prior to joining Lowenstein, Maimin served as lead prosecutor on the largest-ever gang investigation and prosecution in New York City history, resulting in the arrest and prosecution of 120 leaders and members of two rival gangs. Those prosecutions ended a years-long gang war between 2Fly and BMB, which had caused an enormous amount of violence over 10 years in the Northern Bronx. The Attorney General’s annual ceremony recognizes employees and other individuals who have demonstrated exceptional achievements, leadership, and service to the DOJ and the American people. Maimin said, “I am honored to be included among so many other exceptional individuals who every day put their lives on the line to keep our communities safe and uphold our democracy’s laws.”
Attorney General Barr described all the recipients as “examples of excellence that continue to inspire our own commitment, and also as reminders of the professionalism and the qualities exhibited throughout the department.”
