Lowenstein Sandler LLP announced today that seasoned health care executive and lawyer James Shehan will join the firm as a senior counsel in its Life Sciences practice and as head of the Firm's FDA Regulatory Practice. Mr. Shehan previously served for over 19 years as general counsel of Novo Nordisk and most recently was of counsel at Hyman, Phelps & McNamara, an FDA regulatory law boutique firm in Washington, D.C. Early in his career, Jim also worked as corporate counsel at Pfizer and at FDA.

Mr. Shehan brings to Lowenstein vast experience with complex regulatory issues related to drug development and life cycle management, compliance matters, internal investigations, and transactions. He has worked extensively on life sciences mergers and acquisitions as well as licensing matters. With over three decades of life sciences experience, his extensive knowledge of industry issues extends beyond drugs and biologics to medical devices, cosmetics, foods and dietary supplements. Mr. Shehan also has a particularly deep understanding of the emerging field of biosimilars.

In his nearly 20 years at Novo Nordisk, the company became a market leader in diabetes products and grew sales from $100 million to more than $5.5 billion. Simultaneously, under Mr. Shehan's stewardship, the company's legal, compliance and government affairs staff grew to more than 100 personnel with a budget of more than $30 million.

Mr. Shehan said, "I'm excited to join my new Life Sciences colleagues at Lowenstein Sandler, who share my business-focused perspective on the industry and passion for helping clients bring new products to market.
