Lowenstein Sandler Litigation Department Chair Christopher Porrino was named 2018 Attorney of the Year by the New Jersey Law Journal as part of that publication’s annual Professional Excellence awards program. Porrino received the honor in recognition of his significant achievements in 2017 while serving as New Jersey State Attorney General. During his acceptance remarks, Porrino stated, “The opportunity to serve the public as the state’s Attorney General has been among the greatest gifts I have ever been given. To receive this award for that work, well, it’s like the icing on a cake I did not deserve in the first place.”

According to the journal’s Professional Excellence guidelines, the Attorney of the Year award is given to a lawyer who (typically in the preceding year) has “made his or her mark on the profession, and in the law, with an achievement that goes beyond service to the client.” The other finalists in this category were CJ Griffin, member, Pashman Stein Walder Hayden P.C., and Matheu D. Nunn, partner, Einhorn, Harris, Ascher, Barbarito & Frost, P.C. All three finalists were profiled in videos produced by the journal.

Attorney of the Year is one of numerous competitive Professional Excellence categories. Others include New Leaders of the Bar, Lifetime Achievement, Jersey Dealmakers of the Year, Mentors, GC Impact, Legal Departments of the Year, and Litigation Departments of the Year. Members of the journal’s editorial staff team up with a panel of outside practitioners to select the category finalists and winners.

All of the winners were recognized at a June 21, 2018, Professional Excellence dinner and awards presentation at the Brooklake Country Club in Florham Park, New Jersey.
