Lowenstein Sandler is proud to join 117 other law firms in a commitment to Mansfield 4.0/The Mansfield Rule, which aims to increase the representation of historically underrepresented lawyers among law firm leadership.

The Mansfield Rule is an initiative first launched in 2017 by Diversity Lab, an incubator for innovative ideas and solutions that boost diversity and inclusion in law. It was named in honor of Arabella Mansfield, the first woman admitted to practice law in the United States, and it mirrors the NFL's Rooney Rule, which requires teams to interview at least one minority candidate for head coach positions. Each year, Diversity Lab updates the initiative to expand inclusion; Mansfield 4.0 launched in July 2020.

“Lowenstein strives to provide a positive, safe, and comfortable environment where each employee’s talent is fully utilized, and we are always looking for ways to keep improving,” says Gary M. Wingens, the firm’s Chair and Managing Partner. “Lowenstein’s commitment to the Mansfield Rule will provide transparency and accountability to our firm’s ongoing efforts to make sure diversity, equity, and inclusion permeate all programming undertaken by the firm, both internally and in the community.”

Under the Mansfield Rule, at least 30 percent of a law firm’s leadership candidates should be from historically underrepresented groups, including women, people of color, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and lawyers with disabilities.
