Lowenstein Sandler is proud to announce that it will receive a 2020 Cornerstone Award from Lawyers Alliance for New York in recognition of its pro bono legal services to nonprofit organizations that aim to improve the quality of life for low-income New Yorkers.  The award is the highest business pro bono honor in New York.

Lowenstein Sandler has worked with Lawyers Alliance for more than 15 years, handling a wide range of timely and complex legal projects on behalf of nonprofit clients. The firm has taken 42 pro bono referrals from the Lawyers Alliance since July 2015, with 18 new matters since July 1, 2019.  This partnership with Lawyers Alliance has enabled the firm to help nonprofits navigate corporate, intellectual property, employment, real estate, and other transactional legal issues that are critical to their programs, financial stability, and operations.

Christina Holder, Corporate Public Interest Counsel in the Lowenstein Center for the Public Interest, says, “On behalf of my colleagues, we are honored to be recognized, along with Morrison & Foerster and all of the individuals who contribute their skills and time to Lawyers Alliance and their nonprofit partners. We share a commitment to providing high-quality legal assistance to nonprofits so that these organizations can focus on their missions. We are particularly proud of the work we have done to help nonprofits effectively navigate the pandemic so that they can continue their essential work of serving individuals in need, enriching communities through the arts, and promoting a fair and just society.”

Brian Nistler, an associate in Lowenstein’s Investment Management group, provides corporate governance and formation counsel though Lawyers Alliance to the nonprofit Broadway for Racial Justice. He says, “It is incumbent upon lawyers during these difficult times to help amplify the voices that need to be heard. It is gratifying to be able to use our resources to support organizations like Lawyers Alliance that give so much to New York, helping people effectuate positive change in their local communities.”

Lawyers Alliance selected Lowenstein as one of two institutional honorees out of its network of 140 volunteer institutions. Other honorees include Morrison & Foerster LLP, in addition to 10 individuals selected from more than 2,000 business and transactional lawyers who volunteered through Lawyers Alliance during the past year.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Lawyers Alliance will recognize honorees through e-mail alerts, social media posts, and a small virtual celebration in December.
